S. Komatsu: Control of Depth of Field by Pupil Phase Modulation and Digital Demodulation, Extended Abstracts (Optics and Photonics Japan 2009) (2009) 244-245. (25pCS8)
Wave-front coding (WFC) is known as a breakthrough technique for extending the depth of focus of an imaging lens. The WFC technique requires a phase mask to modulate the pupil function along with the subsequent digital decoding. From a more physical standpoint based on pupil phase modulation, the principle of WFC can be understood more clearly than from the conventional standpoint of system engineering based on ambiguity function analysis.
