The depth of field (DOF) of an iris recognition system can be extended by wavefront-coded (WFC) imaging, and the adoption of the optimized free-form phase mask (FPM) we developed is expected to give further extension of DOF. It is experimentally confirmed that the WFC imaging with the FPM assures much larger DOF than conventional imaging.
