Abstract: It is known that the phase distribution of a transparent object can be recovered from a recorded Fraunhofer diffraction pattern by using Fourier iterative algorithms. Although this method provides simple means for phase distribution measurement, the accuracy and sensitivity of the phase recovery greatly depend on the finite accuracy of diffraction pattern recording. We adopted a cooled CCD camera for the recording whose dynamic range are much wider than conventional image detectors. Phase recovery of a plane wave, spherical waves and a fabricated phase object model are experimentally conducted, and the RMS errors of the restored phase distributions are examined.
